Geelong Jet Boat Rides
The weather was looking a bit ordinary as we left Hastings and headed for Laverton to meet the rest of the gang and after a couple of showers we arrived at Macca’s.There we met up with Karl & Barb, Joe & Jo Arena, Bill, Kerin & Shelly Duyvestyn, Alan, Ruth & the girls and Trevor & Marcus.
We left for Geelong (watch out for those cameras!) and were met there by locals Gordon & Cilla Issell in her red Vette.
Found some parking next to Gilligan’s Fish & Chipper so that seemed as good a place as any to get some lunch, then we strolled down to the waterfront area where the jet boat was.
Trevor had been looking forward to the jet boat but when he saw the Harley he quickly changed his mind and was last seen heading off into the distance aboard the Harley with a huge smile on his face.
The rest of us sorted out who was going on which boat ride, some choosing the 15 minute ride and eight thrill seekers going for the full half-hour one.
After we finished the shorter ride and only got half soaked I knew we definitely made a good choice! Karl had done his homework and brought a set of wet weather pants and jacket (which Lois also put to good use on the first ride), Alan was clever tooand sat between his girls so they absorbed much of the spray but poor Cilla was in the backseat, which seems to cop a lot of water, and came out of the boat looking like drowned rat!
They say that the Smithson girls provided many laughs with their comments during the ride; Dwayne the driver took much delight in heading straight for the channel markers and veering off at the last second.
We all agreed that it was great fun and with the entertainment book discount was great value as well and the weather wasn’t too bad but after the jet boat it didn’t really matter!
At the waterfront we found a cafe and some hot drinks helped warm us up as we dried off, then our convoy rumbled through Geelong to the Issell’s to check out Gordon’s garage, their son Craig had joined us in his blown ’28 A model roadster (a very loud rumbler!)
Soon we headed off into the sunset after a thoroughly enjoyable day.
