Port Fairy Run
A great location, mostly fine weather and good company made the Port Fairy run a great weekend and hopefully a regular event to take place every “off”convention year.
Friday afternoon we visited the garage of Port Fairy club member and local panel beater Brian Budd. Among Brian’s cars in his workshop was a waiting for trim 57 Wagon, 55 4 door, a beautiful low 56 Nomad recently finished. Brian also has a couple of other projects waiting to go including another 56 Nomad and 57 sedan. You might also be familiar with his chopped 55 Delivery, which is a common sight at conventions.
Saturday most of us went down the road to check out Warrnambool. Whale watching was a popular activity and we were rewarded with some spectacular right whales frolicking just out from the lookout. Lunch was at Lake Pertobe Adventure Playground just relaxing in the sun with the kids enjoying the motorboats and playground. Saturday night we had dinner at the Stump Hotel in Port Fairy in a private function room. After everyone remembered what they had ordered, we enjoyed a fine feed. Unfortunately for some of us with kids had to make it an early night but I’m told there was a few late stayers at the pub.

Sunday was show n shine day, parked in a vacant lot next to the information centre in the middle of Port Fairy. The local grapevine resulted in a number of local cars coming out to add to the 7 or 8 member cars. It was good to have a chat with some of the locals and some different cars. A mini bus came to pick a load of members to go out and visit the nearby wind farm, which was enjoyed by all. No mention of any straying birds into those blades! Sunday was wrapped up with a BBQ back at the excellent caravan park where most people stayed. Big thanks to Brian for letting us poke around his garage and helping setup some of the local events for us. Hopefully we’ll be back there in 2008.
